The Sea to Sky Hospice Society is hosting the 17th Annual Hike for Hospice fundraising event from Monday May 1 through May 31.

For those of you who missed it, Jody Kramer, the Client Services Coordinator, spoke with Darren McPeake of Mtn FM Radio fame, this past Tuesday to share insights about the upcoming events and fall programs being offered by the Sea to Sky Hospice Society.

We wanted to share Jody’s interview with you here, so that you too, could learn about what is on the fall schedule.

Our palliative volunteer training is scheduled for mid-November. This 35 hour training will provide you with the tools and resources needed to provide compassionate care to those facing life limiting illness or experiencing grief from the loss of a loved one.

The successful applicant will be working with the Sea to Sky Hospice Society to build upon the valuable work that has been done over the past years. The Sea to Sky Hospice Society is hosting the 17th Annual Hike for Hospice fundraising event from Monday May 1 through May 31.

March is the time to renew your annual membership. At the AGM last year, we passed a resolution that all memberships will run from April 1 to March 31 to coincide with the fiscal year end. If you purchased a membership last fall or more recently, your membership will be grandfathered into this coming year. Your membership enables us to provide compassionate care to those facing life limiting illness or experiencing grief from the loss of a loved one.

The Grief and Bereavement Counsellor provides short term focused treatment to help people who are struggling with grief which may include individuals and/or families. The duties will include: planning patient’s counselling sessions, conducting therapy sessions with them, and making suggestions to help each patient manage their grief in the healthiest ways possible.

This is a one year contract position.

Grief & Bereavement Walks:

Join us for a gentle forest walk where your grief is welcome. Whether your loss is recent or several anniversaries have passed, our Hospice Volunteers will welcome you into this peer support group. Look for the Hospice-branded backpacks and/or hats. No registration required.

Thursday Mornings (10-11:30) January through June 2025: Meet at the Adventure Centre (Coffee chat at Cafe Garibaldi following the walk)

Tuesday evenings (6-7pm) meet at the Squamish Public Library

Grief and Loss Art Exploration

When there are no words, sometimes art can open the heart. In this small closed group, Vancouver Art Therapy Institute practicum student Angela Walsh Noble provides an inclusive and supportive environment in which to gain confidence to creatively explore grief and loss, and to heal. Participants will use a variety of materials. No art experience necessary, and all materials are provided. Sea to Sky Hospice Society provides a bereavement support volunteer during this session.

Pemberton resident Angela Walsh Noble holds both a BFAH and a B.Ed. from Queen’s University, and an M.Ed. in Art Education from UBC. With more than 20 years of experience, Angela is a veteran community art educator.

Occurs every Wednesday evening from May 7-28, 2025, from 6-8pm

In the Pemberton District Community Centre, Room D

Squamish Infant Loss Peer Support Group:

Over a 4 week period, together, we will share our love and heartache, and focus on how to grow WITH our grief, with grace and love. If you are a newly bereaved parent, or several birthdays have gone by, you are welcome to attend this small group. Registration required.

Wednesday evenings April 2-23, from 7-8:30pm, in the Hospice Program Room

Walking together on the beautiful paths around Whistler Village allows participants to have a “Forest bath” while sharing their grief journey in this peer support group, co-facilitated by WCSS support workers and Hospice Society Bereavement volunteers.

Participants meet at Whistler Public Library at 1pm. No registration required.
