Volunteers are fundamental to the mission of the Sea to Sky Hospice Society

There are many ways to volunteer with the Sea to Sky Hospice Society. We have opportunities that involve working directly with our guests, clients and families, to indirect opportunities that include administrative support, assisting at events, shopping for comfort care items, sewing or knitting, working in the garden, joining the board of directors, and more!

VOLUNTEER APPLICATION, SCREENING & ASSIGNMENT PROCESS

All volunteers are required to fill out the online volunteer application. After the application has been received, the Sea to Sky Hospice Society Volunteer Coordinator will conduct the volunteer screening process, including training and orientation before volunteer role assignment(s).

We ask that people who have lost someone in the past year participate initially through indirect volunteer roles, as it is our observation that when we are grieving, self-care is essential. A direct volunteer role that requires holding space and providing emotional support to others in need can be overwhelming.

DIRECT VOLUNTEER ROLES

These roles consist of offering compassionate care to palliative individuals, and / or bereavement support within the community. Hospice volunteers engage and listen without judging or giving advice, and respect personal beliefs and confidentiality.
