We are looking for three new Board Members to fill the vacancies from outgoing Board Members in the fall of 2024.
Community Outreach
Description: The Community Outreach Volunteer acts as an Ambassador providing information about programs and services of the Sea to Sky Hospice Society at outreach events including Community / Health Fairs, presentations and networking initiatives.
Schedule: Variable, scheduled shifts for event planning meetings, assistance at events and other tasks that arise.
Purpose: To promote key messages and programs to the community to increase awareness about the Hospice Society services and programs.
Contact Person: Volunteer Coordinator, or person in charge of event.
Process: The volunteer coordinator will email out the request for help and put the volunteers in contact with the appropriate staff member so they can provide further details and schedule volunteers. Volunteers will be informed either by email or pre-meeting about the goals of the community engagement, including which programs and services are being promoted. Volunteers may help in a variety of different ways such as set up or take down at a community event, sitting at a table, etc. At the event, volunteers will greet guests, provide information, and hand out brochures/posters. Staff may provide other engagement activities for the volunteer depending on the event.
Time Commitment: Flexible and as opportunities arise.
Prerequisites:
Events
Description: The Events Volunteer Assists with planning and / or hosting on the event day. Events include community fundraising, public education, engagement and awareness. Tasks may include ticket sales, set up and take down of tables, event hosting logistics, taking donations and other duties as required.
Schedule: Variable, scheduled shifts for event planning meetings, assistance at events and other tasks that arise.
Purpose: To aid the fundraising team before, during and after events.
Contact Person: Volunteer Coordinator, or person in charge of event.
Process: Volunteers may assist in a variety of different ways such as selling raffle tickets, helping set up or take down an event, sitting at a registration tables, etc. The volunteer coordinator will email out the request for help and put the volunteers in contact with the fund development team so they can provide further details and schedule the volunteers.
Time Commitment: Flexible and as opportunities arise.
Prerequisites:
Office Administration
Description: The Office Administration Volunteer assists with administrative tasks such as, but not limited to poster printing and distribution, data entry, productions and editing of (Word, Power Point and Excel) documents, data base work and other administrative duties as required.
Schedule: Variable and as needed.
Purpose: To maintain and keep organized the library and checkout system and add any new and additional books that may come in.
Additional Qualifications: Familiarity with Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
Contact Person: Volunteer Coordinator.
Process: The volunteer coordinator or other staff member may request assistance with photocopying, putting up posters in strategic places around town, data entry into Better Impact, writing acknowledgement letters, issuing tax receipts for donations, writing thank you cards and watering the indoor plants.
Time Commitment: Flexible or as needed.

Library Support
Description: The Library Support Volunteer helps with the Jamie-Lyn Marchant Library maintenance and catalogue updates, loan follow-up, book circle support as needed, data entry, iPad support, research projects.
Schedule: Variable and as needed.
Purpose: To maintain and keep organized the library and checkout system and add any new and additional books that may come in.

Prerequisites:
Gardening
Description: The Gardening Volunteer assists with the planting and maintenance of the hospice gardens for the residents, families, volunteers and staff to enjoy.
Schedule: 1-2 hours per week, 2 days per week.
Purpose: To maintain the hospice garden for the enjoyment of the clients and families staying at the hospice.
Additional Qualifications: Familiarity with gardening in the Sea to Sky area. Knowledge of common garden plants.
Contact Person: Staff member in charge of the garden or lead garden volunteer.
Process: The garden volunteer will check the schedule for available shifts and sign up for two shifts per week for the duration of the gardening season. If the volunteer is unable to make the shift, he/she will endeavour to find a replacement for that shift(s). The volunteer will receive instructions about watering, weeding, and other maintenance that needs to be done during the garden season.
Time Commitment: one to two hours per shift, ideally two shifts per week (April – October).
Prerequisites:
Baking
Description: The Baking Volunteer will bake cookies, muffins or other baked goods, prepare and serve tea and cookies to the clients and families staying at the Hospice.
Schedule: Ad hoc, as needed.
Purpose: To bring comfort and joy to those clients and families staying or visiting the hospice.

Prerequisites:
Cooking
Description: The Cooking Volunteer will cook special meals such as a birthday or anniversary dinner for clients staying at the hospice.
Schedule: Ad hoc, as needed.
Purpose: To provide that special touch for those special occasions.

Process: Coordinate with Hospice Palliative Staff for needs
Time Commitment: Ad hoc / subject to client requests.
Prerequisites:
Music
Description: The Music Volunteer provides musical entertainment for residents, families and friends of the Whistler Blackcomb Foundation Sea to Sky Community Hospice. Activities include playing the guitar, flute, violin or other musical instrument and / or vocally leading a group in song.
Schedule: Ad hoc and as needed.
Purpose: To bring joy to clients, families and staff.
Additional Qualifications: Experience performing for small groups.
Contact Person: Hospice Palliative Nurses.
Process: Coordinate with Volunteer Coordinator, or nurses on duty in hospice.
Time Commitment: Flexible
Prerequisites:
Chemo Tea “Comfort Care”
Description: The Chemo Tea “Comfort Care” Volunteer will provide comfort care tea services to patients undergoing chemotherapy as an opportunity to build our compassionate community and share resources and information.
Schedule: 1-1.5 hr between 9-11am on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday during Chemo Clinics.
