Job title: Executive Director
Introduction:
The Sea to Sky Hospice Society is a non-profit organization that promotes and provides compassionate care for all Sea to Sky residents with life limiting illness and ongoing support for their loved ones. In collaboration with VCH palliative care teams, the Sea to Sky Hospice Society provides support and programming for the Whistler Blackcomb Foundation Sea to Sky Community Hospice and provides opportunities for growth and development for its staff.
Location:
This position is based out of the Whistler Blackcomb Society Sea to Sky Community Hospice in Squamish, BC. The Executive Director will reside in the Sea to Sky Corridor.
Job Summary:
Reporting to the Board Chair, the Executive Director is responsible for the overall leadership and administration of the Sea to Sky Hospice Society (the Society) in alignment with its mission, vision and strategic priorities. The individual will have a demonstrated ability to work with a Board of Directors, Society Personnel and volunteers, as well as have experience in fundraising, marketing and communications in a non-profit environment. The Executive Director will foster and support a warm and collaborative environment that respects the individual and welcomes change and innovation.
Job Responsibilities:
Leadership
- Provides leadership and manages the day to day operations of the Society, working closely with the Society Personnel and the Board to implement programs and carry out its strategic objectives
- Establishes working relationships with funding agencies, government agencies and community stakeholders to ensure the sustainability and growth of hospice palliative care service delivery in the Sea to Sky corridor.
Operations and Administration
- Works in partnership with the Board in developing the Society’s strategic plan
- Implements and provides oversight to the operational plan and budget
- Keeps current with legislative and regulatory changes pertaining to the delivery of Hospice care
Financial Management - Develops the operational plan and annual budget for review and approval by the Board
- Provides monthly and annual reports to the Board of Directors
Fundraising
- Provides leadership of and support for the Society’s Fundraising & Community Engagement Committee
- Provides leadership, management and oversight to fundraising events and campaigns
Human Resources
- Is responsible for human resource management of Society Personnel
Programs and Initiatives
- Identifies and acts on emerging needs and opportunities for program and policy development
- In collaboration with Society personnel, promotes the Society’s programs and services to the community, government, agencies, media and other stakeholders
Communications
- Informs the Board of Directors of issues and opportunities that may affect the Society
- Manages donor recognition and communication activities
- Manages the Society’s website, social media and print communication, ensuring all materials are relevant and up to date
Requirements
- Post-secondary degree or diploma in business or a relevant field
- Experience in a not-for-profit environment is an asset
- Minimum of three years of recent related leadership experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience
- Knowledge of and experience with community-based fundraising and grant proposal writing
- Knowledge of the non-profit healthcare environment including staff and volunteer development, program development and delivery, marketing and communications and financial management
- Strong communication, interpersonal and public relations skills
- Strong organizational, problem solving, priority setting and decision making skills
- Competency in using software applications
- Demonstrated ability to establish a framework for boundary setting within the leadership role
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with a Board of Directors, community stakeholders and donors
- Demonstrated ability to motivate, provide feedback and manage staff and volunteers
Hours of Work and Compensation:
This position is a contract position at 30 hours per week at a starting rate of $45/hr.
